Sankalp Centres

Delhi

A SOCIETY for Promoting Inclusive Education

Since its inception in Delhi in 2006, Sankalp has evolved and transformed itself to respond to the perceived changing needs of children from disadvantaged and marginalized groups. We began as a centre mainly to create awareness on inclusive education.

The interventions of this centre ranged from training teachers on inclusive education, developing printed material on inclusive education and acting as a resource centre to promote inclusion of children from disadvantaged groups in regular schools.

 DEVELOPMENT

In the beginning, Sankalp focused on developing materials on Inclusive Education. The materials were developed for various stakeholders involved in teaching and learning. The aim of the materials and training was to acquaint individuals on how to use effective teaching techniques; classroom management, classroom organization, learning and types of problems, For more info go to https://indiasankalp.org/about/https://indiasankalp.org/about

TRAINING PROGRAMMES CONDUCTED BY SANKALP SOCIETY FOR FUNDRAISING

To begin with, Sankalp raised finds by conducting training programmes for parents and teachers. In 2011 the success of this project serving lower socio-economic children's needs resulted in all of the children being mainstreamed into regular schools in the area. IASE Volunteers and GIVING Funds helped to provide supplies and support to make this happen. Starting in 2012, Sankalp began working on sanitation projects, wherein it provides girls' toilets and safe drinking water to poor schools so that the girls remain in school. Sankalp Society needs volunteer support mainly to train teachers on inclusive pedagogy and how to develop child friendly teaching learning material. Volunteers can also help us identify possible resources (both national and international) that can support us further.

Other needs include:

  • School supplies for elementary students:books, puzzles, blocks, reading materials, games, charts;
  • Volunteers to support studies and activities;
  • Expansion of  our skill training initiative by opening a new centre.
  • Computer literacy program by procuring more computers to enhance reach. More than 175 children are now being covered through this intervention.
  • Livelihood program was started in December 2025 with the aim of reaching out the most marginalized women. Skilled women are given sewing machines so that they can become economically in dependent and earn their livelihood. This has been a very successful intervention. The coverage till now has been of 57 women,

Golden Jubilee.webp

The month of August 2024 began with the first event for the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of SPJ Sadhana School, the Inauguration of the Memory Wall. The unveiling of the Memory Wall revealed the emerging story of 50 years of the school. An important aspect was the Golden Jubilee Logo, which celebrates the milestone of 50 years and symbolizes the promise to continue the journey onwards.

Diamond Training

A two day trip on 13th and 14th April was undertaken to Surat to attend a workshop to Enhance the Students’ Educational experience and to understand the Gem Industry. They were accompanied by Ms. Renu Javeri and Mr. Rahul Desai. The students visited Venus-Jewel Diamond Factory and Hari Krishna Exports Pvt Ltd, both eminent Diamond hubs. They were able to make connections between classroom learning and the actual functioning of the industry, in a new environment and in a different culture. The students were also appreciated and praised for their discipline and dedication. It was an effective learning experience.

Excerpts from FIONIKA SANGHVI's – PRINCIPAL SPEECH

Memories are special moments that tell our story. Today as we unveil the memory wall, we will know of the emerging story of SPJ Sadhana School. The school has journeyed for 50 years. As the school marched courageously decade after decade, there has been so much growth. Growth in its infrastructure began from a tiny school operating out of a small space/classroom to now a 4 floor school housing classes, vocational training and so many therapies.

Growth in its curriculum grew from one that is updated regularly with the latest in the field of special education to a holistic integrated curriculum.

Growth continued in methodologies, approaches, number of students and educators.

Empowering  special needs students leads to their growth. Every student who has reached the door of the school climbs its steps and runs through the corridor. We have been able to empower the students to a level of advocating INCLUSION.  Today’s moments are tomorrow’s memories and the best thing about memories is making them.

Don Bosco Sneha Bhavan

Don Bosco

From 10th to 25th April an Observation and Orientation workshop was held in SPJ Sadhana where funfilled activities - use of Busy Bags, Pasta Art, Trips to Hanging Garden, Origami, Badminton, Football, Cycling, Puzzle Competition, No Gas cooking, Movie, Cleanliness in the Classroom, Fancy Dress Nail Art and Tattoo - were conducted for the entire school.

The event was the first of its kind and involved the entire staff and students in shared activities. The emphasis was on values such as friendship and sharing and working in tandem. It targeted cognition, perception and social interaction for the students. It was a platform for the teachers to assess the strengths and weakness, likes and dislikes and capabilities of their students and recognize their character traits such as tenacity and flexibility. It also strengthened survival skills by bringing safety measures into prominence.

ORIENTATION AND OBSERVATION

A Journey of Enduring Partnerships

Our new 2022 visit to many of the Don Bosco Centers was an exciting one. Even though these centers are within the local area the challenge of driving becomes a navigation feat! Indian road rules appear to operate within the domain of karma where you do your best and stay out of the way of the cows. Basically driving starts on the left, unless it is occupied. In that case, you go to the right, unless that is also occupied. Then you proceed by occupying the next available gap. It appears to be like chess and all part of the overall adventure. The next few days we visited many of the centres of this non-profit organization whose main focus is to work with underprivileged boys and girls in the city of Cochin. It is run by Don Bosco fathers.

We enjoyed the overview and teachable moments at our first visit with Fr. Abi. He reviewed the intake process, provided us with a brief tour, and allowed us to share and teach the boys at this temporary shelter home for run-away boys which just opened in 2020. Mary Gale founding member and past VSP coordinator lead the group in a song in English which was used later as a warm up for the students yoga classes.

Vimukti Girls School

 Vimukti Girls School, Jaipur, is a senior secondary school providing free education to 800 girls from slums of Jaipur.  We are showing the photos of then 2004 and now.  We welcome back our newest VSP site.

unnamed now.webp

Sanstha Vimukti School was founded in 2004. "Vimukti," which literally translates to "redemption," was an ideal moniker for an effort to help girls from Jaipur's urban slums escape poverty and backwardness by giving them access to high-quality education. Vimukti Sanstha's biggest obstacle was the mindset of impoverished parents who kept their daughters at home to look over their siblings and take care of the house while their mothers worked as domestic help.  Stay tuned for more information on our latest site!
