Reflections on a Shared Journey

The  19th Biennial IASE Conference was only possible in collaboration with the Royal Thimphu College (RTC), the Bhutan Foundation, and the Ministry of Education.

As our conference comes to a close, it's difficult not to think on our shared experience over the course of a week, much alone 40 years.  It all starts with the three C's of Inclusivity.  I count, I care and I can.

• I count. Everyone should feel seen, heard, and respected for who they are. This was evident on a daily basis in our key note sessions, insightful panel discussions, interactive presentations, poster sessions, and throughout the local community. When a person feels like "I count," they understand that their presence is important and their absence will be felt.

• I care. Inclusivity is not passive; it necessitates active emotional commitment and mutual respect. Words and experiences convey the story of how our delegates were cared for personally at the Hotel Park and Naksel Urban Hotel, by the RTC nursing staff, volunteers, wellness groups, locals and RTC team, transforming  exploring mindfulness, spirituality, serendipity, and the quiet beauty of everyday moments. into a friendly and psychologically safe community.

 

•I can.  Is where true inclusion prepares and enables everyone to act and contribute effectively. This conference site encouraged everyone to speak up, fight exclusion, and effect good cultural change.

Lastly, we were astounded by this proverb as we were leaving the Paro airport. Because this trip has been shared by our IASE community, it has reached its full cycle with countless opportunities for the future!
