12th Biennial Conference

Windhoek, Namibia

July 10-14, 2011

After 14 years, IASE returned to southern Africa for our 12th Biennial Conference. The conference was held in collaboration with the University of Namibia (UNAM) in Windhoek, Namibia from July 10 - 14, 2011. 215 international delegates from thirty countries were joined by 130 Namibian teachers, administrators and policy makers for four engaging and diverse days of lectures, round table conversations, poster sessions and panel discussions. It was a celebration of our important work with individuals identified with special needs.

Conference Proceedings

All conference delegates received a travel drive that contained the Conference Proceedings. The Conference Proceedings is a 183 page monograph that contains 60 of the papers presented at the 12th Biennial Conference. Click here to see a PDF file of the Conference Proceedings.

Tuesday Morning Keynote   (7/12/11)

Dr. Jacqueline Thousand and Dr. Richard Villa gave the opening keynote address on Tuesday morning entitled,

(7/13/11)  Wednesday Morning Keynote

Edward Khanya Ndopu is a 21-year-old youth activist born in Namibia and raised in South Africa. He is an advocate for inclusive education, mainstreaming children living with disabilities into regular education systems. Edward our Wednesday morning keynote address entitled:

(7/13/11)   Wednesday Afternoon Keynote

Dr. Stephen Shore is a professor of special education at Adelphi University, President emeritus of the Asperger’s Association of New England, and serves on the Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee and for the Board of Directors for Autism Society of America. Dr. Shore's Wednesday afternoon keynote was entitled, "Life on and Slightly to the Right of the Autism Spectrum: An Inside View Towards Success".
